DIL Workshop: Impact Evaluation

April 10, 2015 @ 12:00 pm - 2:00 pm

DIL will be hosting a workshop on Impact Evaluation on April 10, 2015 in 100 Blum Hall.

THEME: Impact Evaluations in International Development

Facilitated by: Alexandra Orsola-vidal, Director Global Networks, Center for Effective Global Action

Lunch will be served

Rigorous evaluation is critical for improving the quality and impact of development programs. Monitoring & Evaluation (M&E) tools are used widely by development practitioners and policymakers, yet relatively few multilateral agencies and governments have institutionalized the use of impact assessments to drive their policies and development programs.  The DIL Impact Evaluation Workshop will cover the strengths and limitations of standard M&E tools, and the need for more rigorous evaluation methods.  The workshop will cover basic concepts such as theory of change, causal inference, and counterfactual, and an overview of impact evaluation methodologies, including both experimental and quasi-experimental methods. No previous knowledge on impact evaluation is required to attend the workshop. Lunch will be served.

About the facilitator: Alex Orsola-vidal directs all training and capacity building initiatives and leads CEGA’s efforts to create a network of universities, development agencies and local research institutions that promote rigorous program evaluation. Since 2006, she has consulted for the World Bank, designing and implementing randomized controlled trials of large-scale development programs globally. She has extensive expertise facilitating impact evaluation workshops for local counterparts and bilateral agencies. Previously, she worked for international and local NGOs such as BRAC and Engineers Without Borders. Alex holds a MSc in Development Studies from the London School of Economics and a BA in Economics from the Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona.

DIL Workshops are technical seminars designed to support DIL projects through their innovation pipeline. Workshops are facilitated by experts and focus on topics such as IRB approval, intellectual property, and M&E, to name a few.
