Practitioner’s Bio:

Piya Baptista has nearly 15 years of experience in strategy; project design, implementation, and management; analytical research and writing; performance measurement; and knowledge management. Her work focuses on how companies are making a positive impact on society through their core business. In this regard, Piya analyzes the sourcing and distribution strategies of companies working with small and medium-sized suppliers and distributors; challenges in building sustainable supply chains; business programs to engage and strengthen performance of suppliers and distributors; and developing commercially viable products and services for low-income consumers.

Over the course of her career, Piya has gained extensive knowledge of multiple industries, including mobile telephony and mobile financial services, agribusiness, general manufacturing, and retail among others. Piya has co-authored five reports in recent years and written 20 case studies on businesses in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. She has conducted field work in India, Nigeria, the Philippines, Turkey, and Ukraine.

Piya currently serves as a Research Fellow for the Corporate Social Responsibility Initiative at Harvard University’s Kennedy School. She is also consultant to and former Associate Operations Officer at the International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector lending arm of the World Bank Group, and in recent years has been an independent consult to The Coca-Cola Company, SABMiller, and Business Fights Poverty. Piya is a graduate of the London School of Economics and Political Science.
